How to start a difficult conversation with your partner

Timing, tone, and a few words that make it easier to begin.

Choose a calm moment

Avoid starting when either of you is tired, hungry, or rushing out the door. Ask, “Is now a good time to talk about something that's been on my mind?”

Begin with what you want

Start with the hope, not the complaint: “I'd like us to feel closer,” rather than “We never spend time together.”

Whenever you're ready, we're here to listen.

Request a conversation

Choose a counsellor, pick a time that suits you, and confirm.
