Questions people often ask
If your question isn't here, ask us. We're happy to help.
Are your counsellors LGBTQ+ affirming?
Yes. Every counsellor works in an affirming way, and several have specific training in LGBTQ+ issues. We never try to change anyone's sexual orientation or gender identity.
Will you tell my family?
No. We never share your identity, your relationships, or that you're seeing us with family or employers. You can choose discreet contact options too.
Is what I share kept private?
Yes. What you share stays between you and your counsellor. There are a few narrow situations where confidentiality has limits, such as a serious risk to someone's safety. Our privacy page explains these plainly.
Do I need to know what's wrong before I reach out?
No. Many people start with “something doesn't feel right.” That's enough.
Can I come alone if my partner isn't ready?
Yes. Individual sessions can help you think about your relationship, and your partner can join later if you both wish.
Do you work with all kinds of couples?
Yes. We welcome couples of every kind, including same-sex and inter-cultural couples, married or not.
Is counselling online as helpful as in person?
For many people, yes. Choose whatever feels most comfortable and private for you.
Is PSYTALK an emergency service?
No. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please see our ‘Need help right now?’ page for who to contact.
How do I pause or stop sessions?
Just tell your counsellor or let us know. There's no lock-in and no pressure.
